Case Study: Realscreen Virtual Reality Set

SNEAKY BIG Staff / 5.28.2021

How do you go virtual with an awards show without losing any of the glitz and glamour of the in-person event? You create a life-like, gorgeous and immersive virtual reality set like the ones we craft at SNEAKY BIG.

The Realscreen Summit

Realscreen is the definitive global market for the business of unscripted and non-fiction entertainment. In January 2021, in lieu of having its live conference in New Orleans as in years past, Realscreen decided to go big virtually.

The 23rd edition of the Realscreen Summit featured a virtual marketplace for industry members to connect, network and engage with one another in a new, re-imagined space. Part of that re-imagining was how the conference could still host its annual “Realscreen Awards Show,” but virtually.

Awards Shows, Re-imagined

The “Realscreen Awards Show” is dedicated to honoring the best programs in competition, lifestyle, reality, non-fiction and digital content. The production team behind the live event contacted SNEAKY BIG for help in making a virtual show a reality.

The Challenge

With 21 nominee categories, five awards of excellence and two hall of fame recipients, there were a lot of awards to cover. The motion graphics team at SNEAKY BIG came up with a virtual solution to showcase all the nominees, winners and honorees for the evening by creating a customized virtual reality set.

The set was detailed, immersive and lifelike, and it conveyed the same level of glitz and glamour as a live, in-person gala. Thanks to SNEAKY BIG’s Infinity Set and tracking technology cameras, host Michael Yo was perfectly positioned during the show, making the audience feel as if they were truly watching it in-person.

Exponential Viewership Increases

In years past, the live awards show typically had 400+ attendees. By going virtual, the “Realscreen Awards Show ” was viewed by TEN times that amount (4K+) the day the show aired live and another 2.7K+ viewers over the next three days of the Realscreen Summit. The virtual event was available on Realscreen’s website after the Summit and an additional 2.5K+ people have viewed the show since. Going virtual proved to be a huge success for the “Realscreen Awards Show” audience.

Real Kudos From Realscreen

“As a live event producer, figuring out how we were going to bring the Realscreen Awards experience to a virtual platform while giving our nominees and winners the celebration they deserved was daunting. In working with SNEAKY BIG, we had a blank canvas to bring our show to life. The team delivered an impressive virtual space worthy of the glitziest black-tie gala, beautifully showcasing our brand as well as the best shows in unscripted and non-fiction entertainment,” said Realscreen Lead Conference Producer Tiffany Rushton.
